SEEN AND HEARD
Teen Event (Ages 13 to 17 )
What to expect in the morning?
How the Afternoon Blocks Work:
Morning: Connection, Games, & Food (Outside)
We kick off the day outside in the fresh air with a light continental breakfast and a warm welcome. It’s a completely low-pressure environment where you can grab some food, meet awesome local community partners, and hang out with other teens and adults who truly get it. We’ll keep things moving with fun, high-energy group games and icebreakers—plus plenty of chances to win cool prizes —before wrapping up the morning together over a free community lunch.
Welcome to You Matter Counseling’s 2nd Annual Teen Event!
We’ve created a completely free, safe, and welcoming space for teens ages 13–17 to connect, laugh, learn, and just be themselves. Whether you want to make new friends, get creative, or learn some great skills for navigating life, there is something here for you.
What to Expect at Seen & Heard 2026
Afternoon: Choose Your Own Adventure!
We know that no two teens are exactly alike, which is why the afternoon isn't a rigid, one-size-fits-all lecture. Instead, we run multiple workshops simultaneously, allowing you to choose exactly what you want to do. You have total control over your afternoon!
We run multiple activities at the same time, and you get to choose exactly 1 from Block A and 1 from Block B:
Block 1: Creative Expression Workshops
Channel your energy and share your voice through hands-on activitieArt Activity Memorial: Join NM for Gun Violence Prevention to use art as a meaningful way to process the impact of gun violence.
Vision Boards: Map out your future, your goals, and discover your inner strengths.
Cumbia Wepa! Dance: Get moving, shake off some stress, and learn a vibrant new dance style.
Poetry & Spoken Word: Express yourself and turn your real-life experiences into powerful words.
Block 2: Practical Life Skills & Discussions
Get real, practical tools for navigating the things that affect your daily mental health and social life:
Healthy Relationships: Learn how to spot green and red flags and build safe, supportive connections.
DBT Coping Skills: Walk away with real-time mental health tools to manage anxiety, depression, and stress.
Healthy Masculinity: A space to talk about modern male identity and breaking down online stereotypes.
Online Life & Social Media: Discuss the balance between digital life, body image, and looking forward to your future.
LGBTQ+ Identity & Support: A safe, inclusive, and welcoming space to discuss identity and community.
FAQs
What exactly are we going to do at this event?
1
It’s a mix of a few things! We’ll have some fun icebreakers, hands-on activities (like art, games, or team challenges), and a relaxed group chat about real-life stuff—like managing stress, navigating friendships, and figuring out how to handle the pressure of school and life. It is not a lecture.
Do I have to talk or share my personal secrets?
2
Not at all. You have total control over how much you want to share. If you just want to hang out, listen, and eat snacks, that is 100% okay with us. There’s zero pressure to perform or speak up until you feel comfortable.
Who else is going to be there? What ages?
3
You’ll be hanging out with peers your own age! This specific event is open to local teens ages 13 to 17.
Is this going to feel like school or a boring lecture??
4
You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. We aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day.
Is my teen required to be an existing client at You Matter to attend?
6
Nope! This event is open to all teens in the Albuquerque community, whether they have been to therapy before or not. It’s a great, low-pressure introduction to mental wellness concepts.
Can parents stay during the event?
7
Not at all. You have total control over how much you want to share. If you just want to hang out, listen, and eat snacks, that is 100% okay with us. There’s zero pressure to perform or speak up until you feel comfortable.
